It can and can’t be worth it - it completely depends on the usage within your home. At the end of last year, Ofgem removed the requirement for standing charges after following recommendations by the Competition and Markets Authority’s.


However, though suppliers are no longer required to set a standing charge on tariffs, most suppliers still have them on most of their tariffs.


Like anything else that has variable charges, it is about the interaction.  So if you don’t have a standing charge, you may see that you are paying more for each unit that you use.  If you have a high standing charge, you may pay less for your usage / kWh.
